Emo Music

Emo music dates back to the early 1980s but was more popularly known then as emotional hardcore or emocore. The hardcore punk scene of the 80s gave birth to emo music. Bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace first introduced Emocore.

The instrumentation that was used at the onset of emo music gradually changed. It was infused with pop punk and indie rock style. Sunny Dale Real Estate and Texas is the Reason bands were the first few bands that introduced the indie rock emo style. Bands started adapting these new blends of emo and indie rock style. Emo music themes also evolved and included romantic nostalgia, romantic bitterness and poetic desperation as bands started adapting the emo theme.

Emo music took a backseat as bands, which were involved in emo music started breaking up. But emo music was never lost. In fact, in 1990s emo music was reinvented and gained popularity as an independent music. There were fewer bands this time but the emo style that was first introduced in the 1980s more or less remained. It still had the same theme in terms of lyrics and punk music. The connection between the bands and its followers grew stronger and more intimate. Record labels started signing up bands that carry emo tunes.

Emo music entered the mainstream media in 2002. Emo bands were being recognized and their songs topped the charts. Emo music soon gained popularity once again and more bands emerged and were signed to major record labels.
