Many years ago, there were a large number of the Kentucky residents that became deathly sick with the very contagious disease that is known as tuberculosis. To better be able to administer care to these extremely ill Kentuckians, the Waverly Hills Sanitorium was built. Hundreds of people would end up residing, and ultimately dying within the walls of the sanitorium. The disease was so rampant back in the early 1900’s, that many times, this horrible disease killed entire families, and there were even a few towns that were wiped out entirely because of the death grip that tuberculosis seemed to have on so many people. When individuals of the area would fall ill to the disease, they would then desperately seek the help and medical attention that was provided by the doctors and nurses of the Waverly House.
