Emo is a type of a music genre, specifically, rock music. The lyrics of emo songs normally have emotional and sometimes confessional contents. Emo started in Washington DC in the early 1980s. It emerged from the hardcore punk scene and was known as "emotional hardcore" or "emocore". The term emo was first used in 1985 but how or where it originated from is still a mystery until now.
