Beckley is a city in Raleigh County, West Virginia that had a population that was estimated to be 17, 614 by the Beckley City Census in 2010.* The city was founded in April 4, 1838 by Alfred Beckley, and is so named in honor of his father, John James Beckley. He was the first Clerk of the House of Representatives and the first Librarian of Congress. Beckley used to be known as Beckleyville and Raleigh Court House.
