Deaf Auto Insurance Rates
Deaf drivers, for some, pose great risk and danger. Some find it uncomfortable sitting inside a car when a deaf person is driving. Some are even afraid because they feel like deaf drivers are incapable of driving. Many people believe that deaf people cannot drive or if they can, they are bad at it. This, however, has been disproved by statistics and facts showing that deaf drivers are actually more careful on the road than hearing drivers.
The term deaf may refer to both those partially and completely not being able to hear. They have been able to legally drive in most states and have proven that they are capable and responsible drivers. In fact, the only time you can identify a deaf driver is when you see him or her using sign language; otherwise, you would never know. Some carry cards stating that they are deaf so that when police pull them over or when other people talk to them, they would understand the situation.
The Department of Transportation says that most of the driving decisions made are made on the basis of sight, not of sound. It is why deaf drivers are no different than hearing ones with blaring music playing or earphones donned. Some cars have actually been modeled to keep the sound out for a more "quiet ride".
These all point to the fact that deaf drivers are very much capable of driving. Their inability to hear does not hinder them from using their other senses to drive. Deaf auto insurance rates therefore, should not be different because of it.
Deaf auto insurance rates are just the same with regular auto insurance rates. This is because there is no direct proof or evidence that deaf drivers pose more risk or cause more accidents on the road. This proof or evidence is what insurers need to have before they impose higher quotes on deaf drivers.
