Hard of Hearing Auto Insurance
Some people consider driving to be a difficult task to do when unfocused, much more when disabled. Some can’t even imagine sitting in a car with a deaf or hard of hearing driver steering the wheel. This, however, is a false notion because hard of hearing and deaf drivers have been able to drive legally and safely for many years now.
“Hard of hearing” is a term that refers to people who have difficulty hearing due to hearing loss at birth or acquired or accidental hearing loss. Some people view this disability as a basis for hard of hearing people to not be given licenses to drive. In reality, people think hard of hearing drivers should not be able to drive legally because they might pose greater risks to themselves and to those driving around them.
Hard of hearing drivers have been driving legally because they acquire their licenses just as hearing people do. They pass an exam and go through driving tests too, only the method used is different. Driving teachers who teach hard of hearing and deaf drivers how to drive apply visual teaching; this may not necessarily be sign language but it is more gesture-related. Studies show that driving test and exam results of hearing and hard of hearing drivers only slightly differ.
