Indoor Air Quality
Measuring air quality has been an important practice to governments and government agencies because of increasing health problems caused by air pollution. Air quality is a measure of the condition of air relative to the requirements of one or more biotic species and/or to any human need or purpose. Indoor air quality is a variation of air quality measurement that is limited to areas within buildings and structures. Because most people spend more time indoors than outdoors, indoor air quality has become more of a concern to some people than outdoor air quality. Common pollutants affecting indoor air quality are the following: radon, molds and other allergens, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, legionella, asbestos fibers, carbon dioxide, and ozone. To improve indoor air quality, methods like ventilation to dilute contaminants, filtration, and source control must be employed.
