The site on which the Casa Moazzo Suites & Apartments stand today is steeped in history, having been the location of the mansion, stables and courtyards of the important Moazzo or Muazzo family. Dr. Themistocles Moatsos, director of the hospital of Rethymnon and a descendant of the original family, built the neo-classical building which houses Casa Moazzo Suites & Apartments and lived there with his family.
While all the rooms of the hotel have been renovated and completely redecorated, much care and respect has been given for the history of the house and the people who have owned and lived in it. The Venetian stone door frame which survived from the original mansion can be seen at the entrance of the hotel.
