Air Quality
Air pollution has been a world concern since the rapid industrial growth experienced in the past decades. Air pollution causes many health problems including asthma, chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to the brain, nerves, liver, or kidney. Governments are active in measuring air quality to monitor whether or not the level of air pollution has breached a level that is harmful to the health of humans and other biological species.
Air quality is the measure of air condition relative to the requirements of one or more biotic species and/or to any human need or purpose. Government agencies and other organizations use AQI or air quality indices to characterize the quality of the air at a given location. An increasing level of air quality index means that a larger percentage of the population is likely to experience severe adverse health effects. Air quality index is computed by using a monitor or model that measures air pollutant concentration.
